Contributions Policy

You may submit information taken from a headstone, memorial, cemetery record or other source you are entitled to use. This can include names, dates, grave locations, plot or section details, corrections and photographs of graves or headstones.

Please submit only what is relevant to identifying the memorial or locating the grave.

Please copy names, dates and inscriptions carefully. Where possible, check the information against the headstone or an official cemetery record before submitting it.

If you are unsure about a detail, say so in the notes rather than guessing. Place of Rest may edit a submission to correct formatting, transcription errors or obvious inconsistencies.

Only upload photographs you took yourself, have permission to share, or otherwise have the right to provide to Place of Rest.

Avoid including identifiable visitors, children, vehicle registration plates or unrelated private information in photographs. If another person appears in a photograph, crop or retake it before uploading wherever reasonably possible.

By uploading a photograph, you give Place of Rest permission to store, resize and display it as part of the relevant memorial or grave record. You retain any copyright you already hold.

Do not submit abusive, discriminatory, defamatory, threatening, promotional or deliberately misleading material. Do not use the contribution system to publish private information about living people that is not necessary for the memorial record.

A submission does not automatically become part of the public database. We may compare it with existing records, photographs or other evidence before approving it.

We may reject, edit, merge or remove submissions where they are inaccurate, duplicated, unverifiable, inappropriate or outside the purpose of Place of Rest.

If you are a relative, rights holder or otherwise have a legitimate concern about material on Place of Rest, please use the correction option on the relevant memorial or contact us. We will review the request and, where appropriate, correct, redact or remove the material.

Automated scraping, bulk unsolicited submissions and attempts to bypass submission limits or security checks are not permitted. We may temporarily block requests that appear abusive in order to protect the service and moderation queue.
